Can't find a darn 44t sprocket that is steel.
08/16/18 3:31 PM

I put on a 16t front sprocket and it is loud as shit. It isn't going to work out for me so I need a whole new set. Hopefully for not too much more than 200 bucks. I want steel...no crappy aluminum claiming to be strong AF. I have check motosport....aluminum...ebay....aluminum....amazon...crappy selection and aluminum.
I want to go stock up front with rubber back and 44t in the back for more acceleration and hooligan nonsense. Any basic X-ring chain is fine with me.....nothing fancy.
Where do you guys get yours?

also should I get an oem sprocket so it has the rubber backing for sound control?

thanks
Joel

Back to the parts pages. It goes something like this... What year/cc size model ran a 16t with the same spline pattern?

The stocker is heavy. My steel SuperSprox 17 T is quiet as far as I can tell.

Why not go to 45T?? Might as well. If you don't disable the top speed limiter, you can't do over 186 anyway. I did 180 with a 45 T and I still had a thousand rpm to go. Go to a 45 T. A bit heavier but larger sprockets look so much cooler. Vortex aluminum is lightest. Aluminum will last about half as long as steel. The rear is not hard to change.

SuperSprox does make an aluminum with steel teeth bolted on if you really must have steel.

Any basic X-ring chain is fine with me.....nothing fancy.

Any chain will work but make sure it's rated for 10,000 lb tensil strength.

The EK 3D is very good. Better than my EK ZZZ and even a bit lighter. Lighter than stock and stronger plus lasts for ever. I've got close to 30,000 miles on mine and I've only adjusted it a tiny bit 3 or 4 times. Mostly when I change sprockets otherwise it never stretches.

What year/cc size model ran a 16t with the same spline pattern?

It was a Kaw Zephyr. Something like 1970. Why wouldn't he just get an OEM Gen1 ZX-14 sprocket (except a Supersprox will be cheaper, lighter, better and just as quiet)?

I got a 44t rear sprocket in my cart on ebay....c49 high carbon steel...looks like a no name.

I need to get a plain 17t front sprocket now with the rubber dampner on it. Anyone got a part number?
thanks

yeah, but again that isn't the Front sprocket...I can find the rear easy but where the fuck is the stock front 17t rubber backed sprocket?

I found a 44t steel sprocket and that is just gonna have to due cause its like they don't even make a brand name steel sprocket higher than a 42t.

OK, after a painful search I came up with the best 16t, and 17t choices that both should have the rubber sides to run quiet.

Here is the zypher one.
13144-1317 part number.

Here is the stock 17t which is quiet but has questionable wear since I am tossing mine with 5000 miles on it already.
13144-0040

I am going with this chain

RK GB530GXW-120 XW-ring chain It is rated at 10000 pounds and is rated for 1400cc bikes.

the chain ranged from 78 bucks on amazon and 119 on ebay....big difference.

the 44 sprocket is 40 shipped in steel, a 43 same brand is 40 shipped both on ebay. They were the only rear sprockets I could find that were over 42 and not aluminum.

The front sprockets are spendy at 29 bucks each.

Make sure all are the same pitch. Stock is 530 I believe and you should stay at that pitch for safety.

I sent you a PM....actually it is 81.49 with tax shipped...other zx owners have been getting over 30k miles on them. It is a gold chain too which is a nice upgrade from standard color.

Joel

keep in mind it is only 120 link so you won't be able to use it with a rear sprocket bigger than a 44t with a stock front. They do sell a 130 on up but for 60 bucks more.....F that.

just bought mine so it lists 12 more available.

You will need a chain tool too. Don't go cheap on that.

DID

I got this one:
EK works good.

Did you ever rivet a chain? It's about 60-70 ft lbs, maybe more. You buy a little cheapy, you're goint have trouble. I see the EK on Ebay for $60 but it is a little different than mine--has a screw within a screw and I don't know what tat is. I'd stick with the normal one. Really--You don't wan to be iffy with riveting a chain. Read my tutorial if you haven't done this before.

Yup, got it covered. I bought a pro motion chain breaker and rivet too off ebay for 85 bucks. As long as you use a grinder to take off the old link, it will last a lifetime. I am very careful and check the new rivet size with a electronic caliper for proper flare size.
thanks
Joel

had to do it a few times on my VFR....not hard just have to take your time. Like I said the only thing I farm out is tire mounting and rotation for obvious reasons.

I saw a pic of someone hacksawing the old one. That looks a lot easier than grind and press.

Thanks Chewtoy !

Anytime.

I usually do an endless search for the absolute lowest price. I have been burned a few times thinking ebay or amazon were the cheapest options. Sometimes even Walmart.com beats them both.
